Florida Vacation Travel Checklist
Florida Necessities ___ Insect Repellent (Comes in spray bottles or cans, and individual wipes in a convenient travel size) ___ Insect Repellent for children (These are lotions that are safer for children’s sensitive skin.) ___ Water and refillable water bottles (Adults and especially children can dehydrate rapidly in Florida’s torrid heat all year round. Stay hydrated to avoid heat exhaustion and stroke.) ___ Sunscreen (Use a minimum of 30 SPF and reapply often.) ___ Child Waterproof Sunscreen (Use a minimum of 45-60 SPF.) ___ Lip Balm (For adults and kids purchase the kind that has a sunscreen SPF 15 and higher.) ___ Hats (A necessity for every member of the family. Wide brims are best that cover face, ears and neck.) ___ Sunglasses ___ Aloe Vera Gel (Great for skin that has been exposed to the sun, helps to replenish lost moisture. Some contain a freeze compound that provides great relief for sunburn.) ___ Antihistamines ___ Motion Sickness Medication ___ Band Aids ___ Umbrella ___ Travel Rain Ponchos (It rains a lot in Florida for brief periods. Carry a pocket rain poncho for each person. If you get caught in a storm at a theme park, these are perfect - inexpensive and disposable.)
What to Wear in Florida Bring lightweight, loose fitting clothing for the entire family. Jackets or sweaters are rarely needed April to October. Sandals, flip-flops, sneakers and sport socks will make walking easier. Florida has a very casual dress style due to the extreme heat. Shorts are appropriate attire for almost any venue – even church.
Beach Necessities ___ Swim Wear (It’s best to have at least two swimsuits for each family member.) ___ Beach Towels ___ Chairs and Umbrellas (A necessity in Florida, but these can usually be rented at the beach.) ___ Sunscreen, Lip Balm and Aloe Vera Gel ___ Hat and Sunglasses ___ Floaties for the arms ___ Floatation Swimming Suit (These are popular in Florida, so you might want to purchase here or check your local sporting goods store.)
In general, most beaches and hotel / condo pools do not allow inflatable toys. Check out the local rules before you spend money on these items.
